Geraldo Rivera expressed strong disapproval of President Trump's confrontation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling it a premeditated ambush. He criticized Trump and Vice President JD Vance for humiliating Zelensky, particularly taking advantage of the language barrier. Rivera alarmingly noted that such actions could have severe implications for Ukraine's aid and security. He characterized Trump as a bully during this episode, which he believes puts both diplomatic relations and lives at risk, asserting that the encounter was more than mere theatrics; it demonstrated concerning policy implications.
I was so embarrassed by it, Rivera said. I just could not believe what I was seeing. It was President Trump at his worst, President Trump as an ill-mannered bully insulting a war hero.
This was an ambush. They wanted to have him in a place where they could humiliate him. And what role, indeed, did the Vice President JD Vance play? You know, a disrespectful neophyte who chips in, you know, what was he even doing?
I believe this whole thing was scripted by the Trump administration. And I think that they went in there with the intent of making Zelensky look bad.
People will die as a result of this catastrophe because there won't be the aid flowing, I believe, as necessary. This will interfere with real life. This wasn't just theatrics. This was policy being acted out.
