"(Mark Schiefelbein/Evan Vucci/AP photos) President Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court for an emergency order to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from the central bank's leadership in his latest bid to fire her. The move was expected after an appeals court rejected Trump's latest attempt to forcibly remove her from office earlier this week. Cook has been steadfast in her efforts to remain in office, maintaining for weeks that Trump can't fire her without cause."
"The saga began last month when Bill Pulte, Trump's Federal Housing Finance Agency chief, accused Cook of mortgage fraud, claiming she had listd an Atlanta condo as her primary residence, two weeks after taking a loan on a Michigan home she also declared as her primary residence. Pulte said he handed his findings over to the Department of Justice. Trump quickly pounced, saying he would fire Cook if she didn't resign."
President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court for an emergency order to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook after an appeals court rejected his earlier attempt. Cook has maintained she cannot be fired without cause and continues to serve. Abbe Lowell said Cook will carry out her sworn duties as a Senate-confirmed Board Governor. The dispute began when Bill Pulte accused Cook of mortgage fraud, alleging she listed an Atlanta condo as her primary residence shortly after taking a loan on a Michigan home she also declared primary. Pulte turned his findings over to the Department of Justice. Trump posted a letter on Truth Social declaring Cook removed effective immediately. Cook has not been charged with a crime and is the first Black woman to serve on the Board of Governors.
