President Donald Trump said he plans to deploy the National Guard and additional forces, including the military if necessary, to Memphis, Tennessee. He described Memphis as deeply troubled and compared the planned intervention to actions taken in Washington. Memphis Shelby Crime Commission data show violent crime from January to June is down more than 17 percent compared with the same period in 2024. Previous federal deployments included agents and National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., and National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles, actions that drew legal challenges and a federal judge ruling.
