Trump administration cancels nearly half a billion dollars for Northern California offshore wind project
"Wasteful wind projects are using resources that could otherwise go towards revitalizing America's maritime industry, Duffy said in a statement."
"If it's a day ending in Y, it's another day the Trump administration is assaulting clean energy and infrastructure projects hurting business and killing jobs in rural areas, and ceding our economic future to China, said Daniel Villasenor, a spokesman for Gov. Gavin Newsom."
"Trump has opposed wind energy ever since the government in Scotland allowed turbines near a golf course he owned in 2011."
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy revoked $426.7 million in federal funding previously approved to build a new marine terminal in Humboldt Bay near Eureka to assemble and deploy floating offshore wind turbines. The terminal plan included large cranes, warehouses and wharfs to support floating turbines along the California and Oregon coasts and was the largest such West Coast project. Duffy also rescinded $252 million awarded to 11 other offshore wind projects across multiple states. The revocations reflect the Trump administration's opposition to offshore wind and prompted California leaders to warn of job losses and lost competitive advantage to countries like China, the United Kingdom and Denmark.
