"Tulsi Gabbard's statement here is totally false. Her effort to lie to Congress and the public to justify an unauthorized, unconstitutional war is shameless. She could have said: The only person who is commander in chief of the Armed Forces is the president. That still would have been a dodge, but at least it would have been true."
"It is absolutely not true that whether or not Iran posed an imminent threat is some kind of secret knowledge that the president alone possesses."
"Senator, the only person who can determine what is and is not an imminent threat is the president."
Justin Amash, a former Republican congressman and recent GOP Senate candidate, strongly criticized Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard's testimony before the U.S. Senate. During questioning by Senator Jon Ossoff about whether the intelligence community assessed an imminent nuclear threat from Iran, Gabbard dodged the question and stated that only the president can determine what constitutes an imminent threat. Amash called this statement "totally false" and accused Gabbard of lying to Congress and the public to justify an unauthorized, unconstitutional war. He argued that while the president is commander in chief of the Armed Forces, determining whether Iran posed an imminent threat is not exclusive presidential knowledge.
