Tim Allen met Donald Trump and Melania Trump at a dinner around 2014–15 when Trump expressed interest in moving to Los Angeles to become a film producer. Trump showed enthusiasm for the film business and admired Allen's comedic talent. Trump asked practical questions about recovering losses on a $200 million movie and pressed on ways to make up a box-office shortfall. Allen explained that aside from small tax breaks, studios typically absorb losses. Upon learning that, Trump immediately decided not to enter film production.
