Three arrested at UC Berkeley Turning Point USA event
"UC BERKELEY Officers arrested several people Monday night at UC Berkeley as Turning Point USA paid its first visit to a California college campus since the killing of co-founder Charlie Kirk. Two people were detained following a fight outside Zellerbach Hall, where the American Comeback Tour event was held. One person, who was wearing a red shirt emblazoned with the word freedom, had a bloodied face."
"Brynn Pannier, 18, drove from Davis with friends to attend the event. She was standing near the entrance to the hall when containers started sailing through the air. That was really scary, she said. I have anxiety and coming to something like this is hard for me. I just felt scared. I felt nervous. Things were being thrown you know and I lost my friends."
Officers arrested several people at UC Berkeley during a Turning Point USA American Comeback Tour event, with two detained after a fight outside Zellerbach Hall and a third arrested for breaching barricades. A crowd in the hundreds opposed the event with signs, chants, and by hurling glass containers filled with a blue substance that sent attendees scrambling toward the hall entrance. A helmeted officer's plastic face shield was struck by a rock, and at least one person wearing a red "freedom" shirt had a bloodied face. The appearance marked Turning Point USA's first California college campus event since Charlie Kirk's fatal shooting, intensifying concerns about political violence and the balance between security and free speech. Security preparations included officers from neighboring agencies and across the UC system, and credentialing issues prevented Bay Area News Group reporters from entering.
