The Irish Independent's View: Peace talks without Ukraine at the table is not a legitimate solution, nor is it democratic
Briefly

The ongoing invasion of Ukraine and subsequent diplomatic negotiations are raising concerns about the integrity of international borders and democracy. While President Trump's readiness for talks with President Putin continues, it sends a troubling message, as President Zelensky is not guaranteed a seat at the table. The symbolism of the meeting location further emphasizes that territorial integrity might be compromised. The European Union's demand for Zelensky's inclusion highlights the gravity of the situation, but the potential for real dialogue remains uncertain amid ongoing violence.
Carving up another country illegally invaded, while its leader is not at the table negates not only the integrity of international borders, but undermines democracy.
Thus the Russian leader has already achieved some significant political wins...without having to call a ceasefire in a war in which thousands are being killed as each year passes.
Those who cannot afford the price, cannot complain their title is taken away from over their heads.
Neither country has the right to ignore the government of an independent sovereign state, and lay claim to its lands.
