The Disaster Is Coming From Inside FEMA
Briefly

Staffers within FEMA say the nation's natural-disaster-response division is a manmade disaster. As of May, a third of FEMA's full-time staff had been pushed out or left because of hostility from the Trump administration. Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem has said she wants to eliminate the agency and has required her personal review of contracts over $100,000, causing delays. Acting FEMA administrator David Richardson lacks disaster-response experience and told staffers he did not know there was a hurricane season and would "run right over you" if they interfered. Around 180 current and former staffers sent a public letter to Congress warning that mismanagement could jeopardize future disaster responses. The letter was published on the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and staffers warn that progress since Katrina has been undone.
Our shared commitment to our country, our oaths of office, and our mission of helping people before, during, and after disasters compel us to warn Congress and the American people of the cascading effects of decisions made by the current administration,
run right over you
