""to create a comprehensive immigrant support plan.""
A plainclothes federal immigration officer arrested a man at a San José day laborer center, alarming staff and community members. Local leaders and councilmembers described the arrest as a disturbing departure from typical detention practices and urged coordinated responses. Ortiz and other councilmembers are drafting a memo asking the city of San José, Santa Clara County, and community-based organizations to create a comprehensive immigrant support plan. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not respond to a request for comment.
