Federal law enforcement was involved in a shooting near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue in Minneapolis. Live video showed numerous federal and local officers, yellow police tape and crashed vehicles, with U.S. Customs and Border Protection Cmdr. Gregory Bovino among the officials present. The city posted an advisory to avoid the area. Bystanders were seen and heard blowing whistles and taunting agents. The Department of Homeland Security launched an immigration enforcement operation deploying about 2,000 agents in Minneapolis–St. Paul tied to alleged fraud involving Somali residents. Local immigrant-defense groups trained volunteers to monitor the enforcement.
