"This is a big moment in our democracy, and we must all stand up for the principles of free expression. There's a reason free speech is in the very first amendment. It stands above all others," he said at the end of the segment."

Seth Meyers framed ABC's suspension of Jimmy Kimmel as a pivotal moment for America's democracy and warned about threats to free expression. Meyers tied the suspension to concerns about government censorship and suggested recent actions run counter to promises to restore free speech, raising fears of rapid slide toward repressive autocracy. FCC chair Brendan Carr praised Nexstar's decision, saying broadcasters should push back on programming that falls short of community values. Representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
