Kash Patel was confirmed as the new FBI director by a narrow 51-49 Senate vote, primarily along party lines. His confirmation faced harsh criticism from Democrats, particularly Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff, who raised concerns about his past statements, including calling FBI agents gangsters and promoting conspiracy theories. They argue that Patel's leadership would compromise public safety and undermine the FBI's integrity. Despite the objections, including a protest outside the FBI headquarters, most Republicans supported Patel's confirmation, which highlights the growing partisan divide and potential implications for the agency under his direction.
"This political hack does not deserve to be in this building," said Schiff.
"Only in this year 2025 when President Trump basically has the Republican Party in a headlock can an extreme nominee like Kash Patel be put forward," Padilla added.
"Kash Patel has repeatedly promoted conspiracy theories about a hostile 'deep-state' within the very agency he's been nominated to lead." Padilla said.
"Americans will be less safe," warned Sen. Alex Padilla regarding Patel's potential leadership.
