"The President brags about his Venezuela policy? Give us a break. He hasn't brought an end to the Maduro regime."
"Maduro is a horrible, horrible person, but you don't treat lawlessness with other lawlessness, and that's what's happening here."
"The American people are worried that this is creating an endless war. The very thing that Donald Trump campaigned against over and over and over again was no more endless wars. And right now, we're headed right into one, with no barriers, with no discussion."
Senator Chuck Schumer criticized the Trump administration's capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro as lawless and warned it risks drawing the United States into an endless war. Schumer recalled his 2020 critique that Trump's Venezuela policy failed to remove Maduro and left the regime more entrenched. Schumer described Maduro as a horrible person but argued that lawlessness should not be met with lawlessness. Schumer expressed concern about U.S. plans to run Venezuela temporarily and said Americans fear an open-ended conflict unfolding without barriers or public discussion.
