San Mateo County unanimously votes to remove Sheriff Christina Corpus
"You may remove me from office, but you will not erase the truth,"
"This isn't about accountability, it's about control."
"This removal process had been based on fair procedures and evidence,"
"Christina Corpus and her legal representatives have had more than enough time and opportunity to speak their piece. What they have been unable to provide is anything beyond empty words. They have only continued delaying, deflecting and denying ... To everyone who has been harmed, please know my heart goes out to you."
San Mateo County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to remove Sheriff Christina Corpus under Measure A, which allows removal of an elected sheriff for cause. The vote followed a 10-day evidentiary hearing before retired Judge James Emerson, who issued a 42-page advisory opinion finding multiple causes for removal, including conflicts of interest and acts of retaliation. Emerson concluded Corpus used her authority to create and fund positions for Victor Aenlle. Corpus denied wrongdoing, asserting removal would not erase the truth and claiming the process was about control. Supervisors expressed concern for those harmed.
