Susana Alcala Wood was unanimously appointed San Jose city attorney and will start on Nov. 9 with a $390,000 annual salary. The City Council approved her hiring without discussion. The vacancy followed City Attorney Nora Frimann's planned departure after five years and a replacement search that included a hiring panel and closed-door interviews. Wood received initial council approval on Aug. 26 in a closed session and was championed by Mayor Matt Mahan, who led the hiring process. Wood will be the third woman to serve as city attorney and will lead legal support for city leadership and agencies.
