San Jose airport refuses to play Homeland Security video - San Jose Spotlight
"San Jose Mineta International airport isn't airing a video of Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem blaming Democrats for operational delays during the federal shutdown due to its political content. Oakland, San Francisco, Sacramento and Stockton have also chosen to not play Noem's video in their airports. In the 37-second video, Noem said airport operations are being impacted and federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees are working without pay because "Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government.""
"San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan said the city isn't in the business of politicizing basic public services. "Operations at the airport are continuing without disruption," Mahan told San José Spotlight. "If that changes, airport-specific messaging will inform travelers of any interruptions to service in ways that comply with the Hatch Act." The Hatch Act, passed in 1939, limits federal employees from engaging in certain political activities to uphold a nonpartisan administration."
San Jose Mineta International Airport is not airing a video from Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem that blames Democrats for operational delays during the federal shutdown because of its political content. Several other Northern California airports also declined to play the video. Airport officials state operations are continuing without disruption and that airport-specific messaging will be used only if operational impacts occur. The 37-second clip alleges TSA employees are working without pay because Congress failed to fund the government. City leadership cited a refusal to politicize public services and referenced compliance with the Hatch Act. The shutdown began Oct. 1 after funding negotiations stalled.
