Rogue House Republicans help Dems kill a vote to censure LaMonica McIver in shock result
"If House Republicans think they can make me run scared, they're wrong,"
"We were all elected to do the people's work,"
"I take that responsibility seriously-Clay Higgins clearly does not."
"do not reflect creditably on the House."
Rep. McIver rejected a censure move after an incident with ICE officers outside a Newark detention facility. The House voted 215 to 207 to table the censure resolution that alleges her actions "do not reflect creditably on the House." The measure contends that serving on the Homeland Security Committee is a "significant conflict of interest" for McIver because the panel oversees ICE. Rep. Clay Higgins forced the vote using a mechanism that bypassed GOP leadership. The dispute stems from lawmakers being denied an oversight visit and a scuffle in which prosecutors allege McIver elbowed an officer while she says she was assaulted.
