Brian Cole, a 30-year-old Virginia resident, was arrested and charged with placing pipe bombs at the Democratic and Republican National Committees on the evening before January 6, 2021. Surveillance captured a masked man in a hoodie, mask, and gloves near the scene during the incident. Federal charges include transporting an explosive device in interstate commerce with intent to kill, injure, intimidate, or unlawfully damage property, and attempted malicious destruction by means of fire and explosives. Investigators used license-plate reader and cell-tower data plus video analysis to place his phone and vehicle along the suspect's path on January 5, 2021, and the arrest occurred nearly five years later.
