"In a video accompanying his announcement, Moulton, 46, said the Democratic Party was stuck in the "status quo" and "isn't fighting hard enough.""
""We're in crisis, and with everything we learned last election, I just don't believe Sen. Markey should be running for another six-year term at 80 years old," Moulton said."
""Even more, I don't think someone who's been in Congress for half a century is the right person to meet this moment and win the future.""
Seth Moulton, a 46-year-old U.S. representative and Marine veteran, announced a primary challenge to U.S. Sen. Edward Markey for the Massachusetts Democratic Senate nomination. Moulton said the Democratic Party is stuck in the status quo and not fighting hard enough, and cited lessons from the 2024 presidential election about concerns over older leadership. Moulton argued that Markey, who would be 80 before a new six-year term would begin, should not run again and questioned whether a half-century in Congress is the right experience to meet the moment. Moulton said his campaign will focus on affordability, health care, banning assault weapons, and protection.
