During a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, Democrats criticized top security officials for including journalist Jeffrey Goldberg in a Signal group chat discussing sensitive US military plans. Sen. Mark Warner called the oversight "mind-boggling," pointing out the careless lack of vetting. Goldberg remarked on discovering a significant security breach in national security communications. President Trump minimized the event, claiming no classified information was shared, despite a Pentagon warning against using the Signal app due to identified vulnerabilities. Warner condemned the behavior of intelligence officials, suggesting severe repercussions would occur for military personnel under similar circumstances.
You’ve got this senior level of individuals communicating on this non-classified channel and plain sloppiness put a journalist on and nobody bothered to check who’s this other person on the line.
It was a chilling thing to realize that I’ve inadvertently discovered a massive security breach in the national security system of the United States.
There was no classified information, as I understand it, adding that many people in the government use Signal.
If this was the case of a military officer or an intelligence officer and they had this kind of behavior, they would be fired.
