A question was raised about plans for a new $250 bill featuring President Donald Trump’s face, which current law does not permit. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent responded that U.S. currency has two mandates: no living person can appear on it, and it must include “In God we trust.” He said proposed legislation would need to change the living-person requirement and that the matter is up to Congress. He added that Treasury prepares in advance but will stick to the law. Reports also described efforts by U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach and adviser Mike Brown to push for prototypes, despite concerns that such work conflicts with legal restrictions.
