Our Power-Mad President Wants to Change How We Vote Forever
"President Donald Trump said Monday that Republican lawmakers should nationalize voting-claiming a power explicitly granted to states in the U.S. Constitution. Speaking to right-wing podcaster Dan Bongino, who recently stepped down from his role as the FBI's deputy director, Trump again falsely alleged that the 2020 election was stolen from him, and he urged Republicans to "take over" elections and nationalize the process."
"Regulars at the shebeen know that management is fairly bughouse in favor of federal voting rights protections, especially since the carefully manufactured conservative majority on the Supreme Court has declared jihad on the Voting Rights Act of 1965. But that is not what this is. This is a power-mad president's seeking to bend reality to his lunatic fantasies that he really won an election he clearly lost, and seeking to set up a mechanism whereby he can do it for real."
President Donald Trump urged Republican lawmakers to nationalize voting in at least 15 places and to 'take over' elections, repeating false claims that the 2020 election was stolen. He spoke on Dan Bongino's podcast, alleged without evidence that some states were 'so crooked', and claimed undocumented immigrants voted illegally in 2020. He hinted at 'interesting things' coming out of Georgia while declining to discuss an FBI warrant. The proposal conflicts with the Constitution's allocation of election authority to states and appears aimed at creating a mechanism to overturn or control election outcomes.
