"Summers, a former Treasury secretary and president of Harvard, said in a statement from his office on Wednesday that he'd be quitting the OpenAI role. He had joined the San Francisco startup's board in 2023, in a move to help stabilize the company after the dramatic ouster and then reinstatement of CEO Sam Altman late that year."
"A long series of emails circled one woman that Summers was apparently attempting to woo, despite him already being married. The men discussed Summers' probability of "getting horizontal" with her, and he repeatedly forwarded her emails to Epstein to give him further context on the relationship, the Harvard Crimson reported earlier this week. Epstein wrote in one message to Summers, "I'm a pretty good wing man ,""
Larry Summers resigned from OpenAI's board after emails revealed a sustained friendship with Jeffrey Epstein extending at least a decade beyond Epstein's guilty plea for soliciting a minor. Summers, a former Treasury secretary and Harvard president, joined OpenAI's board in 2023 to help stabilize the company following CEO Sam Altman's ouster and reinstatement; OpenAI acknowledged his contributions. Summers said he would step back from public commitments, called continuing communication with Epstein a "misguided decision," and wrote that he was "deeply ashamed" and recognized the pain caused. The House Committee on Oversight released roughly 20,000 pages from Epstein's estate on Nov. 12. Emails from 2017–2019 include discussions about women's intelligence, Donald Trump, and a series of messages about a woman Summers appeared to pursue while married, with Epstein offering to be a "wing man."
