Nancy Pelosi Calls It 'Cute' Trump Is Going After Comey
"The former head of the FBI [James Comey] has been accused of lying to Congress. There's one point I want to make, she said. And that is that there is nobody who has lied more to Congress than Donald Trump, and that's why I tore up his speech because it was a manifesto of lies. And I said that at the time. So it's so cute almost that he's accusing somebody of lying to Congress."
"In 2020, Pelosi, then Speaker of the House, ripped up a copy of Trump's State of the Union speech following his address to Congress. She was widely condemned by Republicans at the time. Pelosi called her action in front of the cameras the courteous thing to do, considering the alternatives. President Trump claimed at the time that Pelosi had broken the law by tearing up his speech."
Nancy Pelosi called it almost cute that the Department of Justice pursued charges against former FBI Director James Comey for allegedly lying to Congress. Pelosi contrasted Comey's case with President Trump's record, saying nobody has lied to Congress more than Trump and recalling tearing up his State of the Union as a response to a "manifesto of lies." CNN's Dana Bash pushed back noting Trump was not under oath, and Pelosi responded that the president was speaking to the Congress of the United States. Pelosi's 2020 action drew Republican condemnation and Trump's claim that tearing an official document was illegal.
