Minneapolis Woman Violently Dragged From Car by ICE Files Claim Against DHS
"They battered Aliya. They assaulted Aliya. They were negligent in their medical care for Aliya. All of those things are illegal, and this is our tool for making sure that they have to pay for that."
"My hope is that Americans can see that we have an option that might someday make mass acts of racial violence seem too expensive for these folks, even if they don't share our values."
Aliya Rahman, a Minneapolis resident, filed a federal tort claim against the Department of Homeland Security after being violently detained by ICE officers. During the incident, her car was blocked, her window was smashed, and she was forcibly removed despite informing officers of her disabilities. Rahman was denied medical care while in ICE custody and later fell unconscious, waking up in a hospital. Her legal team claims the actions of ICE were illegal and seeks accountability for the excessive force used against her.
