"I'm not sure it's excusable to not be speaking up right now."

Celebrities condemned ICE after an ICE agent fatally shot ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis on Jan. 24, weeks after Renée Nicole Good was killed by another ICE agent. Martha Stewart has generally been reserved about political endorsements but supported Hillary Clinton in 2016, congratulated Trump after his victory, and endorsed Kamala Harris in 2024. Stewart posted on Instagram that her 14-year-old granddaughter Jude Stewart called out her silence on the ICE killings, writing, "I'm not sure it's excusable to not be speaking up right now." Stewart said she took the message to heart and expressed daily disheartenment and sadness over the inability to demonstrate sympathy for the beleaguered.
