Marc Maron Blasts 'Desperate' Bill Maher for Anti-Woke Jokes
"I always had a problem with his tone, Maron said, when asked for his thoughts on the Real Time host."
"I feel with Bill that there is this and it happens with some of the other boomers, there's this desperate chasing of relevance that changes someone's mind in terms of how they approach what they do and also kind of makes the whole undertaking feel desperate, Maron said."
"I know his joke writers. He's got good joke writers who know how to write for his tone, and I've known a couple of those guys, Maron said. They were comics, and they're good guys, but I can't see past, you know, the desperation in what he's willing to do to stay in the conversation."
"Well, you know. I say, you know, In for a penny, in for a Reichsmark,' you know? Maron joked."
Marc Maron criticized Bill Maher for his anti-woke views and accused Maher of desperately chasing relevance, particularly among some boomers. Maron recounted past appearances on Politically Incorrect and HBO but stated he cannot see himself appearing again because of Maher's stance on wokeness. Maron said Maher's comedic tone and reliance on skilled joke writers fails to overcome what Maron perceives as desperation to remain part of the conversation. Maron recently promoted a Netflix special and also mocked anti-woke comics who supported Trump, comparing the Trump administration to Nazi Germany in a provocative joke.
