Jonathan Braun, whose sentence was commuted by Trump in 2021 for a marijuana smuggling conviction, has been arrested again for assaulting an acquaintance and injuring a child. Braun, linked to the predatory lending business, has faced multiple arrests since receiving clemency. Charges against him include assault and endangering a child's welfare. His past includes multiple accusations of violent behavior and questionable conduct. Trump's use of pardons and commutations has come under scrutiny, especially in connection with Braun's case and others linked to his allies.
On Saturday, Mr. Braun, a major player in the predatory lending business, was arrested on Long Island on charges of assaulting an acquaintance and his 3-year-old child.
Trump has already made sweeping use of his pardon and commutation powers in his second term.
Braun has been accused of punching his wife and father-in-law in the head, groping a woman's breast while touching himself, and threatening a synagogue attendee.
Braun punched the man in the face and then shoved the child to the ground, causing a red mark on his back.
