David Pokorny, 45, allegedly sent violent email threats in September to U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer and Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee. Prosecutors allege Pokorny wrote 11 emails on September 2 from a San Diego‑area hotel threatening to “skin” Breyer alive, calling him an “enemy combatant,” and asserting, “We have a legal right to do this because California courts & judges rule in favor of godless socialists.” He allegedly added, “I am a terrorist, and I'm happy to spill your blood.” About a week later Pokorny allegedly emailed Mayor Lee with racially charged threats, including calling her a “psychopath” and saying “I'm going to torture and murder you.” Staff discovered the emails on September 22, Pokorny was arrested in October, and he remains held at Santa Rita Jail pending a potential grand jury indictment.
