"MAGA supporters incorrectly attributed a sea of white t-shirts at Penn State's most recent game as a show of support for slain political commentator Charlie Kirk. On Saturday, Penn State hosted Oregon in a highly-anticipated matchup between two of the best college football teams in the nation. Ahead of the game, conservative podcaster Benny Johnson gave away 5,000 t-shirts with Freedom printed across the chest. The shirt was a signature piece of Kirk's merchandise."
"During the game, Johnson posted a photo on X/Twitter claiming that Freedom has Taken Over the Student Section at Penn State. The video showed two people wearing the shirt among of sea of thousands of other white shirts. Saturday's game, however, was one of Penn State's White Out games. During these games, Penn State fans dress in the color and make the stands of Beaver Stadium almost entirely white."
Penn State hosted Oregon in a high-profile college football matchup during the university's annual White Out, when fans wear white and fill Beaver Stadium. Conservative podcaster Benny Johnson distributed 5,000 'Freedom' shirts tied to Charlie Kirk merchandise and posted footage claiming the Student Section had been taken over. The posted video, however, showed only two people wearing the shirt amid thousands of white-clad fans. Several right-wing accounts, the New York Post, and Fox News mischaracterized the footage and portrayed the crowd as a mass tribute to Kirk despite the White Out tradition explaining the sea of white.
