Alan Bentrup hosted the Pride event after a woman said a Pride celebration might have prevented her son's suicide. Online opponents targeted a drag performer, prompting local GOP leaders to publicly condemn the act and the trans community. The performer was dropped, yet the festival still drew about 700 attendees and 140 vendors. Pastor Bentrup later faced online threats and was removed from the invocation with staff saying it had been "double-booked."
