"I am deeply ashamed of my actions and recognize the pain they have caused. I take full responsibility for my misguided decision to continue communicating with Mr. Epstein,"
"While continuing to fulfill my teaching obligations, I will be stepping back from public commitments as one part of my broader effort,"
Larry Summers will step back from all public commitments while continuing to fulfill his teaching obligations to rebuild trust and repair relationships. The move follows the House Oversight Committee's release of thousands of files that included personal correspondence between Summers and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Summers said he is deeply ashamed, recognized the pain caused, and accepted responsibility for continuing to communicate with Epstein. The White House ordered the Justice Department to investigate ties between Epstein and prominent Democrats. Summers previously served as U.S. Treasury Secretary and National Economic Council director and currently sits on OpenAI's board and a Harvard center.
