"You know, I heard that and listened to a little bit of it and was extremely disappointed and disheartened, and actually, I hope he understands how completely disrespectful that song is, not just to law enforcement but to this country. To every single individual that has ever stood up and fought for our freedoms, he just compromised it all by putting out a product such as that, that attacks individuals who were just trying to make our streets safe, she replied."
"But I am going to go out and probably download some Jason Aldean songs, John Rich songs, John Hardy, Kid Rock, any of those guys. Those guys know what it means to stand up for freedom. So I'm glad I didn't waste any money on that."
"The tune is about how much I love this country and everyone in it more than anything, he wrote. When you hear the rest of the song, you will understand the full context that hits on both sides of the aisle."
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem publicly criticized Zach Bryan's song 'Bad News' as disrespectful to law enforcement and to the country, saying it undermines individuals who fought for freedoms and those who try to keep streets safe. Noem said she had listened briefly, felt disheartened, and was relieved she had never financially supported the artist. Noem visited an ICE facility in Portland after federal arrests of undocumented migrants and said she would instead download music from country artists she views as pro-freedom. Bryan's lyrics include profane references to police and a line about the fading of the red, white and blue. Bryan, a Navy veteran, posted on Instagram that the song was misinterpreted and that it expresses love for the country and a broader message intended to reach both political sides.
