Journalist Don Lemon has been arrested after he covered a Minnesota church protest
""Don has been a journalist for 30 years, and his constitutionally protected work in Minneapolis was no different than what he has always done," Lowell said in a statement. "The First Amendment exists to protect journalists whose role it is to shine light on the truth and hold those in power accountable.""
""At my direction, early this morning federal agents arrested Don Lemon, Trahern Jeen Crews, Georgia Fort, and Jamael Lydell Lundy, in connection with the coordinated attack on Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota," Bondi said."
""I'm not here as an activist. I'm here as a journalist.""
Don Lemon and three others were arrested by federal agents in connection with a Jan. 18 anti-immigration enforcement protest that disrupted a service at Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Lemon was arrested in Los Angeles while covering the Grammy Awards. It remains unclear what charges the four face related to the protest at a church where a local U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement official serves as pastor. Lemon said he had no affiliation with the organization that entered the church and that he was present as a journalist chronicling protesters. His attorney cited First Amendment protections, and Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the arrests. A magistrate recently rejected prosecutors' initial bid to charge Lemon.
