"Carr was responding to a question from Johnson about comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who suggested on his late-night show that members of the MAGA movement were trying to "score political points" on Kirk's death, comments Carr called "truly sick," adding, "these companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel or there's going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.""
"Vance also falsely claimed that George Soros's Open Society Foundations and the Ford Foundation fund The Nation. (Neither foundation currently funds the outlet, and Open Society never has.) "There is no unity with the people who celebrate Charlie Kirk's assassination. And there is no unity with the people who fund these articles, who pay the salaries of these terrorist sympathizers," Vance said, vowing "to dismantle the institutions that promote violence and terrorism in our own country.""
In the week since Charlie Kirk was killed, members of the Trump administration honored him by using right-wing podcasts to threaten people who criticized him. FCC Chair Brendan Carr warned on a right-wing podcast that companies must change conduct regarding Jimmy Kimmel or face further FCC action. ABC suspended Kimmel's show indefinitely shortly afterward. Vice President J.D. Vance, on Kirk's podcast, erroneously accused an op-ed author of celebrating Kirk's death and falsely claimed the Open Society and Ford Foundations fund The Nation. Vance vowed to dismantle institutions that promote alleged violence and terrorism. The comments aimed to terrify and succeeded.
