JD Vance Accuses the Supreme Court of Lawlessness' After Trump Tariff Ruling
"Today, the Supreme Court decided that Congress, despite giving the president the ability to regulate imports, didn't actually mean it. This is lawlessness from the Court, plain and simple. And its only effect will be to make it harder for the president to protect American industries and supply chain resiliency. President Trump has a wide range of other tariff powers and he will use them to defend American workers and advance this administration's trade priorities."
"The Supreme Court made the ruling with a 6-3 vote. In that ruling, Chief Justice John Roberts declared that Trump could not impose the sweeping tariffs without first getting congressional approval. Hours later, Trump blasted the Supreme Court in a press conference and vowed to use other avenues to see his tariffs go through. He also insisted that he still didn't need Congress, directly contradicting the SCOTUS ruling."
The Supreme Court, sitting with a 6-3 conservative majority, ruled that President Trump could not impose sweeping tariffs without congressional approval. Chief Justice John Roberts stated that congressional authorization was required for those tariff actions. President Trump publicly condemned the ruling, vowed to pursue other avenues to implement tariffs, and insisted he did not need Congress. Vice President JD Vance echoed that critique, calling the ruling lawlessness and arguing it will hinder protection of American industries and supply chain resiliency. Vance asserted the administration retains other tariff powers and pledged to use them to defend workers and advance trade priorities. Trump also accused the Court of improper influence and criticized Democratic justices.
