"Political strategist James Carville revealed which Democrat he believes has what it takes to win the White House in the 2028 election. On a recent episode of the show Arroyo Grande, host Raymond Arroyo asked Carville which Democrat he could see carrying the flag for the party ahead of the next presidential election. On former Vice President Kamala Harris, Carville said no. On Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, he said the same."
"CARVILLE: Because no Democrat wants anything to do with anybody that had anything to do with 2024. Not that we dislike them. This is not what we're doing. And I don't think there's no enthusiasm. I mean, look, if you do a poll and you say for 2028, it's Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, any name they heard of. Well, the person they heard of is always going to be on, but that's meaningless."
Two decisive attributes for a viable 2028 Democratic nominee are the ability to raise substantial funds early and to enter the Black establishment and be greeted warmly. Several governors are strong fundraisers, notably California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker. Kamala Harris and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are judged as lacking realistic chances. Rahm Emanuel may influence the party dialogue. JB Pritzker is portrayed as a standout choice because of his fundraising, campaigning intensity, relatability illustrated by a casino-winnings controversy, and his perceived warm reception from Black leaders. Electability depends on both money and establishment support.
