Immigration rights group urges Dodgers to skip White House visit after World Series win
"Los Angeles is a city built by immigrants, working families, and dreamers. We celebrate our champions, but we also stand for justice, dignity, and love for our community,"
"Dodgers, stay with us. Stand with the city that has always stood with you."
Immigration rights groups are urging the Los Angeles Dodgers to decline a customary White House visit because of ongoing immigration enforcement operations in Southern California. The National Day Laborer Organizing Network called on the team to break tradition and remain aligned with immigrant communities, posting that Los Angeles is built by immigrants and expressing support for justice, dignity, and community. The ownership group faces backlash for investing in a company that owns and operates ICE detention facilities. An open letter asks fans to sign a petition urging the Dodgers to decline the White House visit; more than 2,700 people had signed the petition as of Wednesday morning.
