"ICE was here,"
"The Holy Family is safe in the Sanctuary of our Church. If you see ICE, please call LUCE."
"hold the mirror up to what's happening, and this year, it seemed to be, my God, it seemed to be right there in front of us."
"They've done everything that they're supposed to do, but their status could be in jeopardy, and some of our people would be in danger being killed if they did go back,"
St. Susanna Parish displayed an empty Nativity manger accompanied by large signs reading "ICE was here" and instructing people to call LUCE if they see ICE, while assuring that the Holy Family is safe in the sanctuary. The parish regularly highlights national and global issues through the Nativity as a way to reflect current events. The congregation works with resettling immigrants and migrants and expresses concern that enforcement actions put people at risk if returned. Past Nativity protests included a 2018 scene opposing family separation that drew national attention and criticism but local support.
