Christian Castro, 52, was arrested in Texas on Friday after Minnesota officials charged him for allegedly shooting Venezuelan immigrant Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis during an ICE operation in Minneapolis and lying about what happened. Castro was deployed as part of President Donald Trump’s “Operation Metro Surge” mass deportation effort in the Twin Cities. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty filed charges earlier in the month: four felony assault counts and one count of falsely reporting a crime. The alleged shooting occurred January 14 at Sosa-Celis’s home while ICE agents pursued his roommate, Alfredo Alejandro Aljorna. Investigators from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension tracked Castro, and Texas Rangers plus Homeland Security’s Office of the Inspector General carried out the arrest.
