ICEBlock is an app designed to alert users about nearby Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity. Launched by Joshua Aaron in response to the Trump administration's immigration policies, the app has attracted over 20,000 users, particularly in Los Angeles. Users can report sightings of ICE agents on a map, providing information about the agents and their activities. The app aims to help individuals avoid encounters with ICE without inciting violence or interfering with law enforcement operations. Aaron likens current deportation efforts to historical injustices, stating a need for community awareness.
ICEBlock is designed to be an "early warning system" for users when ICE is operating nearby. Users can add a pin on a map showing where they spotted agents - along with optional notes, like what officers were wearing or what kind of car they were driving.
When I saw what was happening in this country, I wanted to do something to fight back. The deportation efforts feel, to me, reminiscent of Nazi Germany. We're literally watching history repeat itself.
