During Trump’s address to Congress, Rep. Ayanna Pressley walked out in protest, stating she could not tolerate his rhetoric criticizing Democrats, including a reference to Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Pressley attended to honor her guest but was appalled by Trump’s remarks and actions, calling them a disrespect to Congress. She denounced his pardons for January 6 insurrectionists and highlighted concerns about unilateral influence from billionaires on federal policies, specifically referencing Elon Musk. Other Democratic lawmakers also left the speech in solidarity during this contentious moment.
"I could not stand one more second, tolerate one more second," Pressley said after walking out of Trump's address.
"This man who pardoned January 6 insurrectionists... who has no respect for Congress, does not respect us as a co-equal branch of government."
Pressley referred to Trump's speech as a "chilling" reminder of the influence of "an un-elected, unaccountable billionaire" on federal agencies.
"This man with his hateful rhetoric and his even more harmful policies... is putting us into a constitutional crisis," Pressley stated.
