Hillary Clinton recently addressed the challenges women face in politics during a discussion at The 92nd Street Y. She criticized female Republicans for often siding with patriarchal values, declaring them largely detrimental to feminist ideals. Clinton expressed her disappointment in past female presidential candidates and reiterated that the path for women leaders is still fraught with obstacles. She emphasized her support for women who authentically represent progressive values, singling out a few Republican women who stand apart from her critiques, indicating a nuanced position on female leadership across party lines.
"Well, first of all, don't be a handmaiden to the patriarchy, which kind of eliminates every woman on the other side of the aisle, except for very few," Clinton stated.
"Look, first we have to get there, and it is, you know, obviously so much harder than it should be... if a woman runs who I think would be a good president - as I thought Kamala Harris would be, and as I knew I would be - I will support that woman."
