Bill Maher praised California Governor Gavin Newsom for mimicking President Donald Trump's writing style on social media and called the posts very funny. Maher highlighted multiple posts from Newsom's press office that adopted Trump's tone and self-promotional phrasing. President Trump responded by calling Newsom incompetent during remarks at the White House. Maher said Newsom recognizes a cultural tactic: rather than trying to outsmart people, Democrats may need to out-stupid them. Maher also warned that Trump's talk of loosening federal marijuana rules could attract unexpected voters, joking that Trump finally got around to him.
Bill Maher gave his stamp of approval to California Governor Gavin Newsom's trolling of President Donald Trump on social media, applauding Newsom for trying to out-stupid the president. On Friday's Real Time, Maher said he found Newsom's recent social media postings in which he mocks the president's writing style very funny. I've never seen a Democrat do this. I think it's very funny he's imitating Trump's exact style, Maher said, bringing up multiple posts from Newsom's press office imitating Trump's style.
This is Newsom, and he will fail as he always does, sad. And I, the peacetime governor, our nation's favorite, will save America once again. Many are calling me the, you know, Gavin Newsom, many say the most loved and handsome governor.' Trump lashed out at Newsom amid his social media campaign this week, calling him incompetent while speaking to reporters at the White House. I know Gavin very well. He's an incompetent guy with a good line of bullshit, and he doesn't get the job done, he said.
Maher argued Newsom is grasping something essential about American culture that Democrats have not fully grasped yet. I feel like Gavin has grasped the essential thing about American culture in this day and age, he said. Don't try to outsmart people. You have to out-stupid them. During the same Real Time episode, Maher also warned Democrats that Trump is encroaching on another voting bloc. Maher argued Trump could steal some votes from another unexpected voting bloc after the president said the administration is looking at loosening federal regulations on marijuana. Finally he got around to me! Maher joked.
