""Leader Hakeem Jeffries will have more to say about the general election well in advance of Nov. 4. Meanwhile, confused New Yorkers are asking themselves the question: Chris Van Who?""

Homestretch unity usually brings party leaders together, but New York Democrats remained divided over Zohran Mamdani's mayoral nomination as Hakeem Jeffries withheld endorsement. Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen publicly endorsed Mamdani and criticized New York's delegation as "spineless" for continuing to withhold support. Jeffries's spokesperson said the leader will speak about the general election before Nov. 4 and offered a derisive retort toward Van Hollen. Van Hollen traveled to El Salvador to visit detained immigrant Kilmar Armando Ábrego García, while Jeffries reportedly urged caucus members to "slow down" on the "El Salvador stuff."
