Hakeem Jeffries Gets Standing O From Dems as He Mounts Marathon Speech to Delay Final Big Beautiful Bill Vote
Briefly

Hakeem Jeffries protested the limited debate on President Trump's bill by delivering a lengthy speech on the House floor. He read letters from constituents expressing concerns over significant cuts to Medicaid, nutrition assistance, and support for farmers, veterans, and small businesses. Jeffries emphasized the need for a passionate debate, lamenting its absence during this process. He expressed determination to represent the voices of those affected, announcing he was only halfway through the letters by 7 a.m. while acknowledging the bill's detrimental impact on the American people.
It had been my hope, Mr. Speaker, that we would be able to have a passionate debate of passionate support and passionate opposition and connection with this bill, that hundreds of members of both sides of this aisle had participated in.
Instead, we have a limited debate and because that debate was so limited, I feel the obligation, Mr. Speaker, to stand on this House floor and take my sweet time to tell the stories of the American people.
The extraordinary thing about this bill is that it represents such an unprecedented assault on the American people.
There are stories that need to be told and I will tell those stories.
