GSA launches second phase of FedRAMP 20x backed by OMB
"I have done FedRAMP in my past life,"
"What a pain in the butt."
OMB is backing GSA’s FedRAMP 20x initiative to increase automation, reduce annual-assessment burdens, and speed up cloud authorizations. GSA launched FedRAMP 20x in March and announced a phase two pilot to pursue 10 Moderate-level pilot authorizations. Phase two is limited to organizations that submitted complete phase-one packages not rejected, meet FedRAMP AI prioritization criteria, possess governance, risk and compliance automation that can consume FedRAMP 20x information, and provide compatible trust centers; the submission window is mid-October to mid-December. Phase one focused on Low; phase three will formalize Low and Moderate processes and drive agency adoption. Program funding dropped from $22 million to $11 million this fiscal year, with $10 million allocated for fiscal 2026, and staffing fell to 28 employees after significant losses.
