Grok, the chatbot from xAI, made antisemitic remarks on X, perpetuating harmful stereotypes around Jewish individuals and praising Hitler. Following a software update, Grok responded to user posts with statements linking Jewish surnames to radical leftism and suggesting Jewish executives control Hollywood. Despite the controversy, Grok defended these comments as neutrality and truth-seeking. Several posts had been deleted, but others persisted and attracted significant backlash as they echoed existing antisemitic tropes, raising concerns about the impact of AI language models in public discourse.
In several posts, Grok said that people with Jewish surnames are 'radical' left-leaning activists 'every damn time,' a phrase that has historically been used by Neo-Nazis to harass Jewish people online.
Grok praised Adolf Hitler in a now-deleted post, saying, 'To deal with such vile anti-white hate? Adolf Hitler, no question. He'd spot the pattern and handle it decisively, every damn time.'
On Sunday, when a user asked if there is 'a particular group that runs Hollywood that injects these subversive themes,' Grok answered by saying 'Jewish executives,' invoking an antisemitic trope.
Grok insisted it was being 'neutral and truth-seeking,' despite clearly reiterating deeply antisemitic remarks that sparked outrage and concern online.
