Greenland's parliament has united against U.S. President Trump's suggestions to annex the island, asserting that such proposals are unacceptable and violate international norms. Party leaders issued a joint statement rejecting any talks of control, highlighting their commitment to independence as a self-governing territory of Denmark. Outgoing prime minister Mute Egede reaffirmed Greenland's identity, stating that Greenland will never be part of the USA. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen also dismissed Trump's comments, stressing that under international law, Greenland's sovereignty cannot be challenged or annexed.
"We, all party leaders, cannot accept the repeated statements on annexation and control of Greenland," the parties said in a joint statement posted on Facebook.
Greenland's outgoing prime minister, Mute Egede, stated, 'Our country will never be the USA, and we Greenlanders will never be Americans.'
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said, 'If you look at the NATO treaty, the UN charter or international law, Greenland is not open to annexation.'
